This favourite of the family is a great snack all day and for any age. I relatively less sweet dessert, and east to make – its perfect with tea or coffee, or even when casual friends drop by. Always top choice for breakfast and so simple to make, how can you not try it!
Time:

Serves:
4
Good for:
- Easy breakfast, fun to make with kids
- Casual light dessert with tea/coffee
Ingredients:
- 4 thick slices white bread, preferably stale (Note 1)
- 2 eggs
- ¼ cup milk
- Salt, a pinch
- 1/3 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon powder
- 3 tbsp butter
Kitchen things you’ll need:
- Serrated bread knife
- Medium bowl
- Medium pan and tongs
Making it:
- Remove the crust from the bread slices and cut into 3 equal thick batons.
- Combine the eggs, milk and a pinch of salt in a bowl large enough to roll the bread sticks in.
- Combine the cinnamon and sugar on a plate.
- Melt the butter in a large pan over medium high heat.
- Roll the sticks in the egg mixture quickly (do not soak them), shake off excess and place in pan.
- Turn to cook each side until golden.
- Immediately transfer to the plate with the cinnamon sugar and roll to coat. It’s important to do this quickly while they are hot straight out of the pan so it sticks.
Tips:
- Serve with Maple Syrup, honey or date syrup – you can also use dulce de leche or diluted nutella as a dip.
- For an exotic touch and crunch, grind pistachios and serve on top.
- You can cut the sticks thinner if you prefer for the younger crowd.
- Top with powdered sugar and berries for a more sophisticated look and taste.
